I went to Las Vegas for the first time in July. It was so hot my nail polish literally melted on my nails walking down Fremont Street and my eyeballs felt like they were being cooked. Vegas had Georgia’s odds of winning the national championship at 3-1, and this made me happy and also nervous. It also took the fun out of placing a long shot bet six months ahead of time.
It’s been a tumultuous football season so far, what with the hurricanes and the election and adjusting to having to watch our games on ABC instead of CBS. I refuse to accept that the SEC East and West no longer exist, my heart will continue to identify as SEC East. I’ve decided that the SEC West can have Texas and Oklahoma, and I’m willing to accept Texas A&M in my now imaginary SEC East, if necessary to balance the numbers. Don’t put me in the same group with those west teams, I’m in a different group, a better group, where we don’t throw trash on the field. WE ARE CLASSIER THAN THAT.
In other news I’ve heard people don’t like it when we bark at them. I very much enjoy barking at people, and people’s irritation really just adds to the enjoyment. What’s the point of being in the airport if you can’t say GO DAWGS to strangers wearing UGA gear and bark at strangers in Texas gear?
Athens was miraculously spared by Hurricane Helene. I’m pretty sure Athens and UGA have no appreciation for how spectacularly lucky we are in this fact, and it’s frankly hard to absorb the destruction that starts once you get to Thomson and extends past Aiken and from Savannah to Virginia. For everyone in this massively huge area of storm damage, I have been thinking about you every day. I know it’s hard to be all that worried about football when you have a hole in your roof, but I hope you have been able to find a way to watch the games and escape the devastation…and join us all for that most happy of football rituals…and…
TURN IT LOOSE!!!!
GOOOOOO DAWWWWGGGSS! Sic ’em WOOF WOOF.
Call your college bestie, clean your coolers, buy a new Georgia hat, maybe one with a bulldog eating a gator. The weather on the coast this weekend looks perfect, and I think it might be cold enough in Athens this weekend to build a fire outside.
I am still here in Athens, come see me. I have a bulldog or two that would love to slobber all over you and a cold miller lite in the fridge.
With all of my bulldog love and affection –
