Beautiful Crisp Winter Days
Posted in Briscoe, Favorite People, Georgia, outside on February 19, 2007| 1 Comment »
This weekend we went to Catie’s farm in the Burke county. It was a fabulous weekend of sunshine, freezing temperatures, happy dogs, good friends, loud guns, big trucks, cold beer, bourbon, grits, card games, old friends, new friends, McKinny’s pond, Coleman’s lake, 17 year olds drinking beer at the bar, Mennonite baked goods, sleeping bags, gloves, skeet, turkey shots, and large spot lights that plug into cigarette lighters. Oh, and Joe Diffy and Tracy Lawrence.
In other words, it was awesome. Briscoe got to run around and play with the big dogs. There were two bird dogs and two labs that ran her into the ground. I swear when she woke up this morning she moved around like she was very sore and stiff. Which was hilarious. She probably should have stretched after playing so hard.
Things I brought home with me from the Burke:
1. A pair of chocolate brown carhart overalls that I bought at the hardware store in Waynesboro. I’m really excited about them.
2. The most dirty and tired dog you have ever seen. She could barely stand up for me to give her a bath when we finally got home yesterday. She kept getting briars caught in her fur when she would try to follow the big dogs down to the creek. She likes the water.
3. A lot of bruises. One on my shoulder from shooting guns, a large on on my leg from where Gunner jumped on me (he weighs a lot more than he looks), one from where Will thought it was great idea to tackle me on greeting (inside the house, we both fell to the ground hard, and I don’t think he was even drunk yet), and numerous other bruises from being clumsy and accident prone. I’m falling apart. Essentially, they are pleasant reminders of what a great weekend I had.
4. A koozie with two big holes in it and lots of little holes. Apparently, shooting beer cans with a shotgun is really fun sport for boys. Especially if the beer can has a koozie on it. And the koozie belongs to me. I think it adds character to the koozie. it is now an important possession. Oh, and I also picked up a Swainsboro racetrack koozie at coleman’s lake. I hope whoever set that beer down didn’t want the koozie anymore. I think I’ll wash it before I use it.
5. A renewed appreciation of how beautiful the world is and how amazing God is for giving us such spectacular things like the sun and the stars and the tall tall pine trees and the mockingbirds, and the bright cheerful rye grass, and dappled bird dogs and spanish moss and gnarled oak trees and spring lakes, and lifetime friends who love me. I am blessed beyond belief in all aspects of my life. I know that life has hard times, so I think it is so very important to live up the happy moments and enjoy the enjoyment.
Happy Birthday Betsy!

Today is my dear precious and amazing friend Betsy Nicholson’s birthday! Betsy was the first friend I made in college and someone that I have clung to and leaned on for years. She is an amazing person, and I feel blessed for every minute I get to spend with her. She has been a running friend, a roommate, a church friend, a pledge sister, a dance partner, a party throwing partner, a friend to cry to, a friend to laugh with, a music friend, a last resort friend, a fellow botanical gardens lover and trip and fall victim, a friend with a warm house and comfy bed where I am always welcome in the ATL, an enjoyer of my cookies, who is sweet to my dog and loves the Dawgs, whose hair is always shiny and whose face radiates light and beauty.
Overall, she is pretty cool. Go to her blog and leave her a Birthday wish if you get a chance! (even though she hasn’t updated in FOREVA!)
This is Betsy, me and Killingsly.

Libby’s Exciting Life in New York

This is who Libby had drinks with Saturday night. It was a big night for both of them, although a bit of a letdown for Brady. The body guard to the left of Libby really adds to the photo, since Brady is at least twice as big as the guard. He looks really pretty, don’t you think? Also, strangely enough, Brady doesn’t have a badge around his neck like Libby. Ridiculous.

The Dilbert Blog is amazing. Read here about how music should be considered a drug. Love it.
Thanksgiving Week is Delicious

So I’m going to the ATL tomorrow. We are having thanksgiving with the Cherry’s. And tomorrow morning Elizabeth, her sister Emily, me, Libby, Steve, Steve’s dad, and a host of other folks are all running in the turkey trot half marathon. 13.1 miles. Yay. I hope I don’t die.
It is still raining here. I’m ready for some pretty weather.
Last night, after I iced the precious little turkey cookies my mom made, Jennifer Blanchard and I went out for a little bit – hung out with Travers and a host of other kids. It was a lot of fun. There really were some young kids at the bar though. Made me feel very old.
Betsy and I discussed this morning how fast time passes these days. We can’t believe another year is over. We are a touch worried we are going to wake up one day and be 35 and have no idea where our twenties went, much less our early 30s. I’m in my mid to late 20s. That is nuts. I feel like I should be 19. Of course then I see 19 year olds at the bar and I realize I’m not 19.
I have very festive mittens that make me happy. And I’m eating a now and later that is probably ten years old. Eww.
Let me just say for the record that Happiness is an egg and cheese biscuit from bojangles. Pure and utter joy.
I am very thankful for so many things in my life. And I appreciate all of you who read my blog. I feel like it has given me the opportunity to interact with a lot of really cool people in many different places.
Navy Whites and Wings

My sweet dear friend Robert, or as we like to call him – Bobby Bond, is leaving today for Japan. He flys F-18 in the Navy and is very clever and talented. Bobby is excited about being at least half a foot taller than everyone in the general population and looks forward to eating a great deal of sushi. He has been warned that if children start crying when he approaches them that it is only because they have never seen someone as big as him. He is going to be catapulted off and landing on the USS Kitty Hawk
for the next three years and stationed about an hour south of Tokyo. The USS Kitty Hawk is out at sea right now – so Bobby will go straight to the boat from California with a brief stop at the base. Everyone please keep Robert and all our other military people in your thoughts and prayers. Remember that tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, which means I don’t have to go work and we should all find a Veteran to give a hug or a beer to. Yay America!
I have amazing friends

My birthday was yesterday. And I have the bestest friends in the world. Betsy sent me beautiful flowers, and Cristina, Allison and Christy sent me cupcakes, Mama made me a cake and dinner for my friends who were so sweet to come over and celebrate with me. And to all my dear sweet friends who called me and sent me messages – I love you.
It was awesome. I am very blessed and lucky and happy and glad. 26 is going to be a great year.
