It is about to storm something fierce.  Thunderstorms make me happy.  Especially now that I have a new rain coat.

Summer storms are one of the most awesome things about the South.  Of course there are awesome storms elsewhere, like at the Lodge, but Georgia holds it’s own when it comes to natural disasters.

Summer storms at the lodge happened around 4 pm every afternoon in July. What used to kill me is that people would get married at 4 pm. Public Service Announcement – find out what the weather patterns are in the place where you want to exchange vows BEFORE the day of the wedding.

The Thunder and the Rain are already here!!!!!!

I can’t deal with this cold snap. I really want it to be warm. I really do. I mean, I guess if I have to be in the library anyway it should at least be cold outside, but it would be nice to take a break in the sun for a little while. But it is a little too chilly. As far as the lyric game goes, apparently I made them a little too hard. For that I apologize. Maybe I will play it another time and make it a little easier. I will give the answers out tomorrow. I went to a lecture about Terry Schiavo today, and I realized that I didn’t know much of any thing about the case at all. It was interesting, but at the end the discussion got to be a little over my head and I was ready to leave before people started throwing bows (just kidding, it wasn’t that bad). I was glad I went. I think that law school classrooms should have doors that don’t make noise when you open and close them. It is distracting and annoying, but there are always going to be situations where the door might need to be opened during a lecture. I think the disruption should be minimized. Someone invent a quiet door. I am reading Angels and Demons, a book I probably should have read last summer when everyone was reading it, but I hate to read what everyone else is reading – something in my contrary nature causes this impulse, so I didn’t read it then. But I am reading it now. I will keep you updated on my thoughts on it. I doubt it will have pretty prose that I will post here like I did for The Beautiful and the Damned, but I’m sure I will have more to say about it later. Hmmm….If anyone sees my attention span, will they please return it to me – I’ll be in the annex. See old Comments | See old Trackbacks

new thought

I decided today that I wish I had been a landscape architech major. I really like trees and flowers and stuff like that. I think I would really enjoy it. To be a professional gardener. Too bad I can’t draw very well. Even though art isn’t really my thing I think I might be good at putting flowers in the right place. I can visualize well. Maybe if this attorney thing doesn’t work out, I’ll go back to school. (hah). See old Comments | See old Trackbacks

Winter blues

I keep checking weather.com – like the ten day forecast is going to drastically change every hour. But I want it to change. I can’t handle all this cold. It is getting to me. I don’t like it. I’m not having fun anymore. I want it to warm up. It is March already, so it needs to warm up. I’ll write a letter.

Dear Arctic Blast,
It was good to see you over Christmas, we were glad that you could come and facilitate the holiday fire building and hot chocolate drinking. You really brought an essential element to the season, and I just wanted to thank you for your presence. It was also fun to have you around in January for the weekend, especially since young ice storm was able to come with you. You allowed me to spend some quality time with my couch (although tell ice storm to try to come in the middle of the week next time).

In addition to expressing my thanks, I would like to ask you to leave. It is nothing personal, I really do enjoy you at certain times. But every guest needs to know when they have worn out their welcome. As my mother would say, we all must learn when enough is enough. I mean, you weather systems just need to learn when one part of the country has had enough. We really didn’t appreciate what the hurricanes did this year – I mean I understand one good wallop, it happens most years, but four? I think there is a level of inconsiderateness in expecting us to put up with that kind of behavior. I understand that the yankee groundhog saw his shadow, but the georgia’s General Beauregard Lee did not see his shadow, so we would appreciate it if you would leave and go hang out up north.

We have come to terms with the long hot humid summer heat, we actually have kinda learned to love her in a masochistic kind of way. But I find it completely unacceptable for her to be followed by 4 hurricanes and then an ice storm, and now weeks of chilling frost in March. I don’t know what we are going to do about all of this, but I think you need to tell all your natural disaster friends that the east coast isn’t going to take the kind of abuse ya’ll throw at the west coast. Florida will not be washed into the ocean like California (although it would give georgia more coastline…).

In closing, I would like to reiterate the extent to which you, Arctic Blast, have overstayed your welcome. Since this is becoming a trend with you natural disasters I understand that you thought you could follow the lead of your peers. But this is not the case and we would all appreciate it if you would pack up and head on back to Canada.

See you in December –

Charlsie Paine

It is storming again. I love how nature can frighten me. Not that I like being frightened, but I am just impressed with nature.

I ran on the trails today, and down by the river. It was a most gorgeous of day, and quite warm. But I had underestimated the amount of rainfall we have received in the last week. I have never been on the trail when it was so muddy, and the river was further up on the banks than I have ever seen. And it was moving, fast.

I remember going to Honey Creek in middle school, and being warned not to stand too close to the Creek (which is a tidal creek, so I assume it is different than the river) because the water eroded the bank from the bottom up, that the bank closest to the water was like a cliff over the water, and if you stood on it that it could cave in and you would fall into the water. I was convinced this was the problem, and that was why there was so much mud, because the river was running right under the trail.

This was all I could think about while running by the river. That, and the possibility of being sucked into the mud forever. I think I have paranoia problems sometimes.

Sunshine

It is so beautiful outside. It is actually hot.

Alex and I are going downtown for a beer outside in the sunshine before medical malpractice. We are meeting at the corner of jackson and broad at 4:15.

Wanna come?

It is about to storm

Black clouds are rolling in, I think I just saw some lightening….the thunder is getting louder….whoa…the radar isn’t looking good. I’m going to go sit in front of a window facing west.

I love thunderstorms.

Brrrrrrr

I mean, give me a break. It was 22 degrees when I got in my car this morning. Wind chill – 16. This is unacceptable. I could see my breath all the way to school.

In other news, I have been taking notes this morning. Also, I thought I had allergies, but now I have decided that I have a full blown cold. Not only am I freezing, but now I’m sick.

But other than these minor setbacks, I am having a great day so far. I am able to concentrate (lack of concentration is the major cause of my bad self esteem), I’m not completely lost in class, I am sitting next to my sweet friend Allison who I never see anymore, I am looking forward to a mr. pibb later, and I am determined to be productive today.

(but I hope it warms up).

I am in augusta and it is December 10th. AND IT IS 75 DEGREES OUTSIDE. A very warm, balmy 75 degrees outside. I think this is ridiculous. I should have worn flip flops and a short skirt today.

Is it already fall?

Don’t let the weather fool you, it is actually the end of November. It is beautiful outside, probably about 65-70 degrees with a warm breeze (which makes all the difference) and a high humidity.

But somehow the trees finally got the message that winter was approaching – and now the leaves have changed and it is easier to believe that the semester is almost over. I’m not complaining about the weather, I like it warm and humid, but I did become a little distressed when I saw some azaleas blooming on north campus the other day. In Augusta, this would trigger a city wide alarm. When I first moved to Athens I didn’t understand why no one else was paying attention to the time frame of the flowers. No one wanted to talk to me about how the Japanese Magnolias seemed to be blooming a bit early and that this could be disastrous to the timing of the dogwoods and the azaleas. Turns out it only matters in a place that has succeeded in tricking the world into believing that there is no where prettier by inviting everyone to town the one week of the year that ever flower in the city explodes.

Okay, lots of productivity to be done today. I was reading my journal from this summer and I have decided that I was much more interesting then than I am now. I apologize, but from here on out until Christmas it is probably going to be downhill for the interesting things happening in my life. Unless of course you really love vending machines (like I do) and printers and highlighters and flashcards.
