What was that noise?

Briscoe got to stay with her Grandparents this weekend.  She had a lot of fun.  She and Bella got to romp around and chew on each other.  Briscoe smelled awesome when I picked her up yesterday.  So I gave her a bath.  As a reward for being such a good dog during her bath and this weekend, I decided to let her sleep on my bed.  I don’t normally let her sleep on my bed, for one thing my bed is about four feet off the ground, but more importantly I don’t want her to get so used to sleeping on the bed that she can’t sleep by herself anymore.  But every once in a while I let her sleep with me, she is so snuggly and sweet, and is normally really good at sleeping on my feet and not moving around too much.

So last night, she snuggled in, and I snuggled in, and we both fell asleep.  A few hours later I awoke to a loud THUMPK! as my sweet snuggly dog rolled off the bed and hit the floor.   She limped off to her own little bed that is a little closer to the ground.

I feel like a terrible dog parent.

Briscoe didn’t eat breakfast this morning before I took her to get her hair cut.  I felt sort of guilty about this all day long, but she didn’t want to eat – and I couldn’t force her.  I figured if it was as traumatic as I was making it out to be – she would learn to eat when she was feed.

I fed her when I got home, and after she sniffed around the house for a while to make sure the terrorists hadn’t infiltrated the place yet – she started eating.  I walked into her little room in the middle of her meal.  She stopped eating, looked up at me – stalked off into the living room, layed down – and let out a huge sigh.  Like – HHHHMMMMM-HHHHHHHmph.

Seriously – did I really ruin her meal simply by being present?  I almost told her hair cut was ugly (which it kind of is) but I thought that might be a little below the belt.

p.s.  As I walked out of my office today – I tingled with anticipation of the weekend and the football game.  GO DAWGS!  Call me if you are in athens! T-Paine and I will be drinking some cold beers.

I’m not sure if you can tell, but she is laying on the pull out couch and chewing up a par three ticket.  Luckily this was after it had already been used.

This weekend we went to Catie’s farm in the Burke county.  It was a fabulous weekend of sunshine, freezing temperatures, happy dogs, good friends, loud guns, big trucks, cold beer, bourbon, grits, card games, old friends, new friends, McKinny’s pond, Coleman’s lake, 17 year olds drinking beer at the bar, Mennonite baked goods,  sleeping bags, gloves, skeet, turkey shots, and large spot lights that plug into cigarette lighters.  Oh, and Joe Diffy and Tracy Lawrence.

In other words, it was awesome.  Briscoe got to run around and play with the big dogs.  There were two bird dogs and two labs that ran her into the ground.  I swear when she woke up this morning she moved around like she was very sore and stiff.  Which was hilarious.  She probably should have stretched after playing so hard.

Things I brought home with me from the Burke:

1.  A pair of chocolate brown carhart overalls that I bought at the hardware store in Waynesboro. I’m really excited about them.

2.  The most dirty and tired dog you have ever seen.  She could barely stand up for me to give her a bath when we finally got home yesterday.  She kept getting briars caught in her fur when she would try to follow the big dogs down to the creek.  She likes the water.

3.  A lot of bruises.  One on my shoulder from shooting guns, a large on on my leg from where Gunner jumped on me (he weighs a lot more than he looks), one from where Will thought it was great idea to tackle me on greeting (inside the house, we both fell to the ground hard, and I don’t think he was even drunk yet), and numerous other bruises from being clumsy and accident prone.  I’m falling apart.  Essentially, they are pleasant reminders of what a great weekend I had.

4.  A koozie with two big holes in it and lots of little holes.  Apparently, shooting beer cans with a shotgun is really fun sport for boys.  Especially if the beer can has a koozie on it.  And the koozie belongs to me.  I think it adds character to the koozie.  it is now an important possession.  Oh, and I also picked up a Swainsboro racetrack koozie at coleman’s lake.  I hope whoever set that beer down didn’t want the koozie anymore.  I think I’ll wash it before I use it.

5.  A renewed appreciation of how beautiful the world is and how amazing God is for giving us such spectacular things like the sun and the stars and the tall tall pine trees and the mockingbirds, and the bright cheerful rye grass, and dappled bird dogs and spanish moss and gnarled oak trees and spring lakes, and lifetime friends who love me.  I am blessed beyond belief in all aspects of my life.  I know that life has hard times, so I think it is so very important to live up the happy moments and enjoy the enjoyment.

Briscoe! Dogs are gross

This is a great video of Briscoe chewing up my socks right after I got back from running.  You can also hear me talking to her if you listen.  I sound weird in my opinion.

Sometimes I think the books and songs from my childhood are no longer acceptable.  Which is sad.  Like Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby.  I loved Brer Rabbit.  Or some of the nursery rhymes we used to sing – that still go round in circles in my head.  I mean – I understand why such stories are not politically correct, but they are a part of the culture of the south.    I don’t know.  It is just a thought.

Have I ever told y’all how much I love my job?  I love my job.  I have a great job.  I don’t know what I’m going to do when I have a more stress filled job.  My job is great.  I love the people and everything.

And my dog is great too.  She is so stinkin cute I can barely take it.  So cute.  She can be bad, but she is cute.  She is getting really tall.  And blond.

The weather has been unseasonably warm lately.  Like – even warm at night.  It was 60 degrees at 10 last night.  Weird.  But it hasn’t been too hot – just warm.

Thanksgiving was awesome – we finished the half marathon in two hours and a minute or two – which I thought was very respectable and my calf muscles did not appreciate.  I was literally sore until yesterday.

Georgia stomped all over the yellow jackets on saturday – which was sweet.  I know I haven’t had much to say about my little bulldogs this season, but I think they have done a great job turning the year around and I am proud of them.  I’d rather lose to Vandy and Kentucky and beat Auburn and Tech – especially if it ruins Auburn and Tech’s dreams.  I’m a sweet girl.

I have been watching a few Ally McBeal episodes on dvd – and let’s just say I’m sad I don’t have all the seasons because I think it is hilarious.  On that note – the new show 30 Rock – I was crying laughing when I watched the free episode I downloaded from iTunes.  Go get it.  It is like the Office but making fun of NBC with Tina Fey and Alec Balwin.  Awesome.

Love y’all.

What’s new in my life

I finally put my money where my mouth is and I now own a precious Wheaten Terrier puppy.  Her name is Briscoe, which is my great grandmother’s maiden name.  And it is also the name of the guy from law and order.  Hah.  Briscoe is tons of fun and very sweet and adventurous.  She likes to wake up a lot earlier than I do.  She is amazingly codependent and does not like being left alone or her crate.  She also isn’t too keen on her leash, but she likes to go on walks.  She is learning.  She will look very different when she is grown than she does now, right now she is reddish brown, but she will lighten up to a wheat color.  Hence the name.  These aren’t the best pictures – I think she is way cuter than this – but I promise more will come.  Here she is – Dsc00822 Dsc00827
