Okay, so one of my best friends in the law school is the vending machine in the basement. I pay a lot of attention to the vending machine, and visit almost every day. Sometimes the vending machine gives me free stuff.
I don’t see the guy that fills up the vending machine very often, I see the coca-cola man a lot, and we are pretty good friends. But this morning I did get a chance to run into the vending machine man. And let me tell you, he hurt my feelings. All I wanted to do was buy some orange crackers, and he told me that I would just have to wait, in a tone that led me to believe that it would be a while. He didn’t even turn around to speak to me, he just acted like I was being an absurd child.
I’m not an overly sensitive individual, but sometimes people use an especially ugly tone of voice that cuts me to the bone. I was already late to class, so I had to leave, feeling chastised and without my orange crackers that I eat almost every day. And it stung a little.
